Lost City (Teyuna) It is an ancient indigenous ceremonial center located deep in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia. Built around 800 BC by the Tayrona civilization, long before Machu Picchu, is considered one of the most important archaeological jewels in Latin America.

It is only accessible via a multi-day trek (between 3, 4, and 5), crossing jungles, mountains, and rivers. During the journey, you will visit camps, indigenous communities, and sacred sites, guided by locals and indigenous peoples such as the Kogui or Wiwa, guardians of the territory.

Lost City is not just a destination: it's a spiritual, cultural, and natural experience that connects you with the living history of Colombia's ancestral peoples.

This experience to visit the Lost City lasts 3 days and 2 nights and includes some demanding hikes, so we recommend being in good physical condition to participate in this experience.The tour includes 60 km of hiking along steep and rugged trails, crossing rivers and hanging bridges. During the tour, travelers will have the opportunity to enjoy stunning landscapes, observe the region's flora and fauna, and immerse themselves in the indigenous culture of the Sierra Nevada.

ITINERARY

Day 1
  • Departure from your hotel in Santa Marta at approximately 4:30 am for a 3 hours drive to the village of Mamey (Machete Pelao).
  • Upon arrival in Mamey, you will enjoy a hearty breakfast to fuel up for the challenging hike.
  • After breakfast, we will take a 45-minute motorcycle ride to the Vista Hermosa hamlet.
  • From here, you will begin a 9 km hike to reach the Mumake campsite, where you will have lunch.
  • After lunch and a short rest, you will begin an 8 km hike to reach the final campsite, Cabaña Paraíso.
  • You will spend the first night of the tour at this campsite.

 

  • This great day will begin with a delicious cup of coffee and breakfast before we visit the Lost City.
  • After breakfast, we'll resume our tour with an approximately 1-hour hike to reach the main terraces of the Lost City. We'll spend 2 to 3 hours there, where you'll enjoy the astonishing complexity of its architecture, as well as various cave paintings and petroglyphs (drawings carved into stone), as recommended by the guide.
  • After the tour, we'll return to the camp for lunch.
  • After lunch and a well-deserved rest, we'll descend with a 4-hour hike to reach the Mumake campsite, where you'll spend the night in a bed or hammock.

  • On the last day of this incredible and wonderful experience, we'll begin with a delicious and nutritious breakfast, followed by an approximately 6-hour hike to Mamey Village.
  • After lunch and a short rest, we'll head to our respective transportation for the descent to the city of Santa Marta. We'll arrive in the city around 4:00 or 5:00 pm, directly at the office or hotel where you were picked up on the first day.
  • End of an amazing experience.
