The tour starts and ends in the city of Santa Marta, at our main office at 7:00 am, and ends again in Santa Marta on the second day at around 4:00 pm.

ITINERARY
DAY 1

La experiencia comenzará donde se encuentren hospedados en la ciudad de Santa Marta lugar donde el transporte los recogerá para llegar al punto donde empieza el tour. Antes de la caminata recibirán las recomendaciones del guía que los estará acompañando durante los 2 días y 1 noche del tour, una vez finalizadas las recomendaciones empezaran la caminata del primer día que será de 7 kilómetros, tendrá una duración de 3 a 4 horas aprox.

DAY 2

After breakfast you will be guided to another part of the village where the school and the large Huts where meets
the community there will talks about the activities that are performed in these huts and some of their tools, and objects that are part of the Kogui culture.
After participating in the obtaining of the sisal (Natural fiber) that women wear Kogui in the development of the backpacks, to turn from this place you will enjoy the spectacular view of the area.

Cultural experience with Kogui indigenous people

The Kogui indigenous community is one of the indigenous peoples who inhabit the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia. Direct descendants of the ancient Tayrona civilization, the Kogui maintain a deeply spiritual worldview based on harmony with nature. They consider themselves the "guardians of the Earth" and live selfsufficiently.

Their native language is Kogui, and their traditions are passed down from generation to generation. Through responsible tourism, some Kogui groups have begun to open their sacred territories to share their culture and message of balance with the modern world.

Itinerary

Day 1
 
  • Departure from the hotel at 7:30 AM. Transportation will pick you up from wherever you are staying in the historic center of Santa Marta.
  • The transport will take approximately 1 hour to reach the Trompito Malla Verde where you will start the walk.
  • Before starting the hike, you will receive instructions from the indigenous guide who will be in charge for the 2 days and 1 night.
  • You will begin the 8 kilometer hike to reach the Kogui indigenous community of Uldezhaxa, which will take approximately 3 or 4 hours. 
  • The hike will take you along the foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, reaching a maximum altitude of 800 meters above sea level, along mountain trails surrounded by tropical rainforest teeming with flora and fauna.
  • Between 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm, you will arrive at the community where you will be welcomed and accommodated in the guest cabin in the traditional house where you will spend the night in hammocks.
  • They then proceed to the table where they will receive typical Caribbean lunches.
  • After taking a break, the guide will take you inside a traditional house where you will receive a craft talk from an indigenous woman.
  • Then you will learn about the processes that Kogui carry out to obtain guarapo (sugar cane juice) using a wooden tool called a trapiche in Kogui (Kaldapitshi)
  • After receiving all the information from the native guide, you will have a delicious dinner from the region.
  • At approximately 6:00 p.m., the guide will give a short talk, teaching you more about the indigenous communities of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
  • After finishing all the activities you will go to rest to continue with the next day.
 
  • The second day will begin with a delicious cup of coffee or tea from the region.
  • At 7:30 AM, you will have breakfast to continue your last day's tour in the Uldezhaxa community.

  • They will receive talks about the activities that take place in these traditional houses and about some of their tools and objects that are part of the Kogui culture.
  • Afterwards, they will participate in an activity where the guide will demonstrate the extraction of fique (natural fiber) that women use to make backpacks.
  • They will also visit a small ethnic school where there are more than 20 students from the indigenous community.
  • Again between 10:30 am they return to the point where they spent the night to be able to pack their bags and have lunch.
  • At 12:00 pm they will start the 8 kilometer descent in approximately 2 or 3 hours.
  • Almost reaching the point where the transport will pick you up, about 30 minutes before you will take a refreshing bath in the river in the village of La DANTA and the well called POZO DEL AMOR
  • At the end of the walk, transportation will pick you up again and take you to the hotel where you are staying.
  • The experience will end between 4:00 PM or 5:00 PM
