Lost City is located deep within the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the world's highest coastal mountain range.

To reach the Lost City, it is necessary to undertake a multi-day trek from rural areas near Santa Marta, passing through the following:

  • Rain forest
  • Crystalline Rivers
  • Mountains and indigenous trails.
  • Local communities.
  • Daily walks of 8 to 15 km.

The hike ends with the ascent of approximately 1200 steps to reach the heart of the Ancestral City.

This unique adventure begins in the city of Santa Marta, as this archaeological site is hidden in the jungle of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and can only be accessed through a guided hike led by local indigenous guides along mountain trails.

What would be the steps to carry out this experiment?

  1. You would need to get to the city of Santa Marta, either by plane or by bus if you're coming from nearby cities like Cartagena or Barranquilla. Santa Marta is the starting point for all tours to the Lost City.
  2. Choose the trek that is most comfortable for your physical condition, as it varies from 3 to 5 days.
  • 3 Day tour.  (Very intense level)
  • 4 day tour.  (Difficult and More Common Level)
  • 5 day tour. (Difficult level, on days 4 and 5 a new route will be visited called, Waterfall Route).
  • 6 day tour. (intermediate level)

¿ What is the best time to visit the Lost City?

The best months to visit the Lost City and experience this fantastic site are from June to mid-August and from January to early March, as these correspond to the dry season and it is easier to hike the trails. During the rainy season, the trails become muddy and the physical effort required is greater; however, tours are still organized during these months. In September, the archaeological park closes to the public to allow the earth to recover and for the indigenous inhabitants to practice their sacred rituals for the cleansing of nature itself. Clousure Lost City:For 2026, the Lost City trail will be closed from October 1st to October 30th.

Prices vary depending on the plan that best suits your needs. As mentioned previously, we offer a 3-day, 2-night plan. This plan is more exclusive and demanding, and therefore currently costs 2,950,000 COP.The price may vary depending on the number of people. The 4-day, 3-night plan is the most popular with travelers and currently costs 1,860,000 COP per person for 2026. The 5-day, 4-night plan follows the same itinerary as the 4-day, 3-night plan, with the addition of a detour on the fourth day to the Cascadas Trail, where you will enjoy several waterfalls and their surroundings. On the fifth day, in the afternoon, we will return to the city of Santa Marta. This plan costs 2,150,000 COP per person.

Recommendations for visiting the Lost City

  • Initially, it is necessary to book your trip several days in advance to guarantee availability of spaces.

    únicamente para personas activas, con buen estado físico y buena salud.
  • La exigencia radica en caminar bajo la humedad tropical de la sierra y el intenso sol
    de la tarde. Por lo tanto, es importante llevar una buena hidratación, bloqueador
    solar, gorra y dinero en efectivo por si quieres comprar algo en el camino.
  • Asegúrate de llevar una maleta liviana, ya que la llevarás contigo al hombro durante 4 o 5 días de caminata.
  • El clima es caluroso y húmedo durante el día, por lo que recomendamos usar ropa
    cómoda, camisetas y pantalones cortos para caminar.
  • Si traes un equipaje grande debido a que viajarás por varias semanas en Colombia o Santa Marta, ten en cuenta que puedes dejar el exceso de equipaje con total seguridad en la oficina de los guías.
